Case Studies - Ceramic Culture Innovation
The changing face of European ceramics from 1851 until the present day."
- delivered though an innovative Virtual Exhibition
Background
Six of Europe's leading ceramics museums have come together to tell the story of 150 years of change. Each has chosen 40 pieces from its collection to illustrate new shapes, new styles, new materials, new techniques and new uses. A touring exhibition, Ceramics-Culture-Innovation, is travelling to each of the museums across Europe.
Challenge
- Create a Virtual Exhibition and Multimedia application to compliment the travelling exhibition.
- Provide access to the Virtual Exhibition via the internet or via a kiosk.
- Provide exhibition visitors with an opportunity to examine and manipulate virtual exhibits within an interactive digital environment.
- Make the solution accessible to all participating countries by providing multi-lingual data.
- Work with the Potteries Museum and ArtGallery and the Hothouse, to ensure the highest quality of solution.
Solution
Live Expertise designed and produced a user-friendly web-based solution reflecting the brand of the CCI exhibition. The solution offers a theme-based search facility, imagery and information on each exhibit and interactive virtual material for key exhibits.
The solution uses Live Ultimate as a system to allow collaboration between participating museums to enter, update, and translate content into six different languages. This allowed the virtual exhibition to expand during the course of the project.
The Virtual Exhibition is accessed via a stand-alone interactive kiosk, which travels across Europe with the rest of the Exhibition. The kiosk provided is self-sufficient, secure and is periodically updated from the CCI website to capture updates to content ensuring visitors to the exhibition enjoy the same experience as those visiting the website.
A separate showcase exhibition including a second kiosk and selected exhibits, has recently been staged at the European Parliament in Brussels.
The enormous potential of the delivery media is demonstrated by visually impressive virtual reality models of six key exhibits, which can be manipulated in space in real time within a 3D environment, using the latest VR technologies.
